Long and healthy hair...

Until now only a few women could make this dream a reality. Rarely is the natural hair capable of surviving the daily struggles, e.g. washing, colouring, combing, etcetera, in order to grow long.

Besides that, the human hair only grows about one centimetre per month. So, if you want to have long hair, it takes you more than five years to achieve it. Who wants to wait that long...

Ultrasonic

At the moment the most used method. The ultrasonic technique doesn't damage your natural strands because this "cold fusion" technique uses no heat or chemicals. The strands are attached via ultrasonic wave.

For those with extremely thin and fine hair this technique can accomplish amazing results.

Bonding

This method is for temporary extensions when you want to add length for a few days or for a special occasion, like a special updo for your wedding.The hair is on a weft, which is applied directly to your hair with special hair glue. This allows the hair to lay very flat on the head.

This method will last a week or untill your next shampoo wash. Pieces can be removed with any oil based product or bond remover.

Air pressure system

The quickest and most economic way is to extend hair by using an air pressure system. This method can put in seven to ten locks at the same time.

Hairweaving/ hair integration/ hair intensification

Hairweaving is adding hair to the scalp by weaving or braiding of human or synthetic hair. The hair is woven to the root area of the client's hair so that it grows naturally with the client's hair. The drawback of the process is that it stresses existing hair and may cause it to fall out. Howvever, the extensions have to be repositioned every five to six weeks as the hair grows out. Some of the natural hair is woven or braided or glued together.

Also the origin of the hair determines the price. European hair is almost twice as expensive than Asian hair, which was bleached several times in order to absorb the European colour shades.

Only human hair can be treated as natural hair: It can be coloured, colour rinsed or permed without any problems. Besides that it is indistinguishable from natural hair!

Human hair extensions can be cared for just like your natural hair - you don't need any special products at all. It is advisable not to use products that contain alcohol. It might dissolve the keratin layers. The only down side to human hair extensions is that they take double the time to put in...

Indian hair

The most expensive imported hair is from India.The Indian hair is very thick and therefore very appropriate for hair extensions. Indian hair is commonly in the virgin state required for hair extensions and is genetically similar to Caucasian hair.

Caucasian hair

The most hard to get hair is Caucasian hair, because few women have hair that has never been chemically treated.

Chinese hair

The shaft of Chinese hair is often too thick and strong to be compatible with Caucasian hair. It is mostly used in wigs and hair pieces.

Hair extensions with artificial human hair

If you don't want to spend lots of money there is always a possibility to have a hair extension with artificial human hair. The synthetic hair is woven into the hair and can be treated as your natural hair. It is also available in different colours.

How much do I pay for a hair extension? 

Obviously the price depends on the amount of extensions and on the origen of the hair. An average customer needs about 120 locks. It depends on how much hair you have. If you have thick hair you obviously need more locks and the other way round.

If you need 150 locks it will cost you £ 1000,00 depending on quality and length.

The new air pressure method can reduce costs with 10-15%. Also hearweaving is less expensive. Obviously extensions with synthetic hair are also less expensive than human hair (about 50%).

Stars like Jennifer Lopez, Shakira or Christina Aguilera often pay more than £2000,00 for their 'fake' hair.

Main reason: They only want to wear 'Virgin hair,' that is cut off by Indian women during a special ceremony before their wedding. It is known that this hair has never been chemically treated!

Can I style, blow dry or colour hair extensions?

If you don't use mixed hair it can be treated the same way as your own natural hair. You should only comb your hair more often to avoid felting at your roots.

If you have mixed hair you will have to use special hair care products.

Taking care & styling your hair after a hair extension

If you wash your hair do not rinse it face down - the long locks can be tangled easily this way!

If you comb your hair use only a natural hair brush. In case you want to blow your hair dry start to blow dry at the attachments - afterwards blow the rest of your hair dry.

Hair care products like hair colouring can be used normally (once a week) - but please do be careful with products that contain alcohol - they can dissolve the keratin layers.

If you are suffering from hairloss like alopecia diffussa or alopecia areata (partial or more small, round, bald patches on the scalp) a hair extension that covers or adds hair to the thinning portion(s) of the head can be a solution. If it is also suitable for you you'd better ask a professional hairdresser.

Besides the 'normal' hair extensions it is also possible to optically extend your hair more economically with hair pieces or wigs.
